About Haj Deputation

Each year, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) hosts nearly 40 lakh pilgrims from across the world. India sends the third-largest contingent of haj pilgrims globally. Excluding the COVID-19 years (2020–2022), India’s Haj quota has consistently remained around 1,75,000 for 2023, 2024, and 2025.

To ensure high-quality healthcare for Indian Haj pilgrims, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), in collaboration with the Ministry of Minority Affairs (MoMA), undertakes comprehensive medical arrangements. The Emergency Medical Relief (EMR) Division and the International Health Division (IHD) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DteGHS), MoHFW, are responsible for planning and executing all healthcare services.

A Comprehensive Health Support Plan has been established to provide seamless medical care throughout the pilgrimage. Government medical and paramedical professionals are deputed to healthcare facilities at various pilgrimage sites, where they provide basic healthcare services, emergency management, OPD and IPD care, and first aid.

The coordinated efforts of DteGHS (MoHFW), MoMA, the Consulate General of India (CGI), Jeddah, doctors and paramedics deployed in KSA, and other stakeholder departments ensure the smooth and successful delivery of health services during Haj.

For deputation of healthcare personnel, nominations are invited from States/UTs and various government institutes. A DO Letter is issued to all States/UTs and institutions outlining the general conditions and eligibility criteria for nomination and deputation.
